Privacy Policy

Effective Date: 1 May 2026  Ã‚·  Last updated: 1 May 2026

1. Introduction

TheDailyScope (“we”, “us”, “our”) operates the platform available at thedailyscope.org (the “Platform”). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, share, and protect information about you when you access or use our Platform.

We are committed to protecting your privacy in compliance with Nigeria’s National Data Protection Regulation (NDPR) and, where applicable, the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

By creating an account or using the Platform you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Platform.

2. Who We Are

TheDailyScope is a digital art and culture platform operating under the trading name “TheDailyScope”. For all data-related enquiries, contact us at:

TheDailyScope

Email: contact@dailyscope.info

Website: thedailyscope.org

3. Information We Collect

We collect the following categories of personal data:

3a. Account data

When you register, we collect your first name, last name, email address, country, and a hashed version of your password. We never store your password in plain text.

3b. Profile and preference data

During onboarding and in your settings, you may provide your cultural interests (e.g. fine art, photography), your role on the Platform (Reader, Collector, or Creator), and your reading preferences (font size, display mode). This data is used to personalise your experience.

3c. Membership and payment data

If you subscribe to a paid membership tier, payments are processed by third-party payment processor Paystack. We do not store your card number, CVV, or full bank account details. We receive and store transaction identifiers, membership tier, billing cycle, and payment status.

3d. Content you submit

Creator members may submit articles, artwork, event listings, and other creative content. This content, together with associated metadata (title, tags, description), is stored on the Platform.

3e. Communications data

If you subscribe to our newsletter or contact us via the contact form, we store your email address and the content of your messages.

3f. Technical and usage data

We automatically collect certain technical data when you use the Platform, including your IP address, browser type and version, device type, operating system, pages visited, time spent on pages, links clicked, and search queries. This data is collected through server logs and, where you have consented, through analytics tools.

3g. Cookies

We use cookies and similar tracking technologies. Please see our Cookie Policy for full details.

4. How We Use Your Information

We use your personal data for the following purposes:

  • To provide and operate the Platform — creating and managing your account, delivering content, processing memberships and payments, and enabling Platform features (lawful basis: performance of a contract).
  • To personalise your experience — using your stated interests, role, and preferences to customise the content you see (lawful basis: your consent and our legitimate interests).
  • To communicate with you — sending transactional emails (account verification, password resets, payment receipts) and, where you have opted in, our newsletter (lawful basis: contract / consent).
  • To improve the Platform — analysing usage patterns and performance to identify and fix issues and develop new features (lawful basis: legitimate interests).
  • To ensure safety and security — detecting and preventing fraud, abuse, and unauthorised access (lawful basis: legitimate interests / legal obligation).
  • To comply with legal obligations — retaining financial records and responding to lawful requests from authorities (lawful basis: legal obligation).

5. Legal Basis for Processing

Where GDPR or NDPR applies, we process your personal data on the following legal bases:

  • Consent — analytics cookies, newsletter subscription, and processing under GDPR/NDPR where required.
  • Contract — account registration, membership management, and payment processing.
  • Legitimate interests — Platform improvement, fraud prevention, and security.
  • Legal obligation — compliance with Nigerian law, financial record-keeping, and responding to lawful authority requests.

You may withdraw consent at any time by contacting us or adjusting your cookie preferences. Withdrawal does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before withdrawal.

6. Sharing Your Information

We do not sell your personal data. We share data with the following third parties only as necessary to operate the Platform:

  • Paystack — payment processing for supported transactions, subject to Paystack’s own privacy policy.
  • PostHog — analytics, only where you have consented to analytics cookies.
  • Brevo — email delivery service for transactional and newsletter emails.
  • Hosting and infrastructure providers — servers and cloud services used to host the Platform.
  • Law enforcement and regulators — where required by law or to protect the rights, property, or safety of TheDailyScope, our users, or the public.

7. International Data Transfers

TheDailyScope is based in Nigeria. Some of our third-party service providers (including Paystack, PostHog, and Brevo) may process data outside Nigeria and, in some cases, outside the European Economic Area. Where such transfers occur, we rely on appropriate safeguards including standard contractual clauses approved by the relevant data protection authorities and, where applicable, adequacy decisions.

By using the Platform, you acknowledge that your information may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your country of residence.

8. Data Retention

We retain personal data for as long as necessary for the purposes described:

  • Account data — retained for the lifetime of your account plus 12 months after deletion to allow for reactivation and to resolve disputes.
  • Payment records — retained for 7 years in compliance with Nigerian tax and financial record-keeping obligations.
  • Creator content — retained while your account is active. Upon account deletion you may request removal of your published content.
  • Newsletter subscriptions — retained until you unsubscribe or request deletion.
  • Usage and analytics data — identifiable logs are purged after 90 days; aggregated data may be retained indefinitely.

9. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you have the following rights regarding your personal data. To exercise any of these rights, email contact@dailyscope.info.

  • Right of access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Right to rectification — request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data.
  • Right to erasure — request deletion of your personal data, subject to legal retention obligations.
  • Right to restriction — request that we limit how we process your data in certain circumstances.
  • Right to data portability — receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
  • Right to object — object to processing based on legitimate interests.
  • Right to withdraw consent — withdraw any consent given at any time without affecting prior processing.

We will respond to all requests within 30 days. If you are unsatisfied with our response, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) or, for EU residents, your local supervisory authority.

10. NDPR Compliance

TheDailyScope is committed to compliance with the Nigeria Data Protection Regulation (NDPR) and the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023. We obtain your explicit consent before processing your personal data (evidenced by consent checkboxes at registration), implement appropriate technical and organisational security measures, and provide the data subject rights described in Section 9.

11. Cookies

We use essential cookies to keep you signed in and keep the Platform secure. With your consent, we also use analytics cookies to understand how the Platform is used. You can manage your preferences at any time using the banner at the bottom of the page or by visiting our Cookie Policy.

12. Children's Privacy

The Platform is not directed at children under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 16. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such data, please contact us at contact@dailyscope.info and we will delete it promptly.

13. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will post a notice on the Platform and, where appropriate, notify you by email. The updated Policy will be effective from the date shown at the top of this page. Your continued use of the Platform after that date constitutes acceptance.
